LOCAL SPECIALTIES

Start your meal with octopus and olive salad or scallops and cuttlefish skewers, or taste typical cheeses such as caciocavallo podolico and canestrato.

As a first course, choose among spaghetti with clams, strozzapreti terra e mare and troccoli allo scoglio. Alternatively, have the typical orecchiette.

Among the second courses, there is plenty of choice based on fish, such as the Pugliese-style sea bream, fried anchovies, mullet alla pizzaiola, murexes with lemon and mussels. If you don’t like fish, you may find barbecued meat and offal.

In case you prefer a first and second course in one single dish, we recommend to taste the pancotto (stale bread with savoy cabbage potatoes and tomatoes).

The typical desserts of the region are cartellate (fried puff pastry, dipped in honey), purcidduzzi (fried dumplings seasoned with honey and orange peel) and sannacchiudere.
