WHAT TO SEE IN PALERMO<\/h3>\n

The historic centre of Palermo is full of treasures to discover. Start with Politeama Theatre<\/strong>, Massimo Theatre<\/strong> and the Antonio Salinas Regional Archaeological Museum<\/strong>. Walk the streets of the city until you arrive at Palazzo Abatellis<\/strong>, then continue towards the coastal promenade of Foro Italico<\/strong> and enjoy the walkway overlooking the sea.<\/p>\n

Continue the tour by visiting the Church of San Giovanni degli Eremiti<\/strong>, the Norman Palace<\/strong> and the Palatine Chapel<\/strong>. Continue towards the Cathedral<\/strong> and stop at Casa Professa<\/strong>, one of the most important Baroque churches in Palermo.
\nNow, walk through Piazza Quattro Canti<\/strong> (The Four Corners) and admire Piazza Pretoria<\/strong>, also known as the Square of Shame for its fountain surrounded by naked statues. Then, get to Piazza Bellini<\/strong>, and visit its enchanting churches of Martorana and San Cataldo<\/strong>, of Norman and Arab style. Afterwards, walk towards Piazza Marina<\/strong>, where you will find Palazzo Steri<\/strong> (the former seat of the Inquisition Tribunal, which is now hosting the University Rectorate) and the beautiful Villa Garibaldi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Get away from the city centre for a visit to the Zisa Castle<\/strong>. Now, go up to Monte Pellegrino<\/strong> and visit the charming carved-into-the-rock Sanctuary of Santa Rosali<\/strong>a, the patron saint of Palermo. Finally, reach Mondello<\/strong> through Parco della Favorita<\/strong> and just relax on the beautiful beach, watching the clear turquoise water.<\/p>\n

PALERMITAN SPECIALTIES<\/h3>\n

Food is a must in Palermo, but fried food is more! ‘Pani ca meus<\/strong>a’ (sandwich stuffed with viel spleen) or ‘chi panelle<\/strong>‘ (with fritters made from chickpea flour), sfincione<\/strong> and rotisserie of all types, cazzilli<\/strong> and arancin<\/strong>i (potato or rice croquettes) are the flagship local street food.<\/p>\n

Between an appetizer and a side dish also enjoy an orange and fennel salad<\/strong>, a caponata<\/strong>, the melenzane ammuttunate<\/strong> or carciofi cu tappo<\/strong> (aubergines or artichockes stuffed with seasoned breadcrumb) and the vegetables in batter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Among the first courses, the anelletti al forno<\/strong> are a must-try, but there is no shortage of alternatives. Try, for example, pasta and tenerumi<\/strong> (zucchini leaves) or pasta and fried zucchin<\/strong>i, spaghetti con le sarde <\/strong>(spaghetti and sardines), spaghetti con l’anciova<\/strong> (spaghetti with anchovies and breadcrumb) and spaghetti con i ricci<\/strong> (spaghetti with sea urchins).<\/p>\n

Among the main courses based on fish there are the boiled octopus<\/strong>, the squid stuffed with seasoned breadcrumb<\/strong> and the beccafico sardines<\/strong>. For those who prefer meat dishes, have a choice between the Palermitan meat rolls<\/strong> or the crumbed grilled steak<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

End with a dessert. Decide among cannoli<\/strong>, cassate<\/strong>, watermelon jello<\/strong>, granita<\/strong> (fruit-flavoured crushed ice) and brioche with ice crea<\/strong>m. Or make your life eaiser and simply taste them all.<\/p>\n

PALERMO POLITEAMA<\/h3>\n

This bus stop is located in Via Filippo Turati n. 3, next to Politeama Theatre and in front of the ticket office ‘Segesta’, where you can buy also Buscenter travel tickets. The road runs along the right side of the theatre, with your back to the entrance.<\/p>\n

PALERMO AIRPORT<\/h3>\n

The bus connection from Palermo Airport to Trapani is operated by Segesta Autolinee.
\nThe stop is located outside the arrivals terminal, on the right.
\n.The departure platform is marked by a signpost of the company Segesta with indication of all buses running to and from Trapani.
\nTickets can be purchased at the ticket office ‘Prestia e Comand\u00e9’ inside the Arrivals terminal.<\/p>\n
