WHAT TO SEE IN BOLOGNA
To begin with, reach the heart of Bologna by public transport. Observe the medieval buildings that overlook Piazza Maggiore and Piazza Nettuno, the Fountain of Neptune and the Basilica of S. Petronio. Then, visit the archaeological excavations in Salaborsa and the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Pietro.
Now, go to Piazza di Porta Ravegnana, dominated by Torre di Garisenda and Torre degli Asinelli, from which you can admire the Red City from above.
In Piazza Santo Stefano stands the complex of the Seven Churches. Afterwards, stop at the Archaeological Civic Museum and the Archiginnasio Municipal Library.
Also, visit the National Art Gallery and the Church of Santa Maria della Vita, peek at the Bolognese canals from the small window in Via Piella and stroll under the portico of San Luca, which connects the historic centre with the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca.
BOLOGNESE SPECIALTIES
The Bolognese gastronomic panorama is tasty and very tasty, but fresh handmade pasta and pork are the masters.
It would be a serious mistake to go to Bologna and not to eat tortellini or passatelli in broth. Obviously the same is true for tagliatelle and lasagne al ragù.
The culinary specialties, however, are not limited to the first courses, and they make their entrance to the table right from the appetizers, with the chopping boards of sliced mortadella, the friggione (onion and tomato sauce) and the most typical fried gnocchi of the Emilian culinary tradition.
The second courses vary from the imperial soup to the most famous pretorian cutlet, and from the chicken galantine to the great mixed fried alla Bolognese.
The traditional local desserts are the Certosino cake (a densely spiced cake with honey, almonds and pine nuts) and the Bolognese rice cake.
BOLOGNA BUS TERMINAL
The bus terminal is located in via XX Settembre.
This large square is divided into two parts by a narrow and long sidewalk. On the right of the lane that leads to the exit there is an area where the buses stop at their respective platforms.
Our buses may depart from platforms 1 to 6, which are almost in front of the bus station lounge room and, in any case, near the pedestrian entrance to the bus terminal. All buses bound for Sicily depart from platform 21.
The pedestrian entrance to the bus terminal is a 10-minute walk from the Train Station.
