WHAT TO SEE IN FLORENCE
City of arts and beauty, Florence offers unique and enchanting sceneries. From your bus stop, reach Piazza del Duomo to admire the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Brunelleschi’s Dome, Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the Crypt of Santa Reparata and the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. Head to Palazzo Medici Riccardi and continue to the Accademia Gallery. Now go to the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella and then head to the Dante Alighieri House. From here, proceed to the Basilica of Santa Croce, Palazzo Vecchio and stop at the Uffizi Gallery. Now, cross Ponte Vecchio, go to Palazzo Pitti and walk in the Boboli Gardens. Finally, continue towards the Brancacci Chapel, inside Santa Maria del Carmine.
FLORENTINE GASTRONOMIC SPECIALTIES
Tuscan cuisine is simple, genuine and tied to a peasant tradition. Here then stand out the timeless pappa col pomodoro (stale bread and tomato sauce) and the soups of bread and vegetables, such as the ribollita.
Among the second courses, the absolute sovereignty belongs to the bistecca alla fiorentina, even if among the typical meat dishes we must not forget the peposo dell’impruneta and the trippa. The beans all’uccelletto are a tasty side dish, but any of these meals should be served with a local wine.
A glass of Chianti, Brunello or Montepulciano is perfect together with the typical Florentine biscuits, the cantucci. At the time of dessert delight yourself with a zuccotto.
VILLA COSTANZA
Villa Costanza is located on the A1 motorway between the exits Scandicci and Firenze Impruneta. It can only be reached from the highway, either from North or from South, taking the new “Villa Costanza” exit. There is a car parking open 24 hours a day and it is connected with the terminus of the Tramway (line T1 – Leonardo). By tram, it takes about 22 minutes from Villa Costanza to Santa Maria Novella station, in the heart of the historic centre of Florence.
With a 40-minute ride you can reach the Careggi Hospital. Trams run every 6/8 minutes. More information: www.gestramvia.com.
