WHAT TO SEE IN RAGUSA
Start your tour of Ragusa from the Hyblean Archaeological Museum, then visit the Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista.
Pass by Palazzo Zacco and admire the panoramic view from the parvis of the Church of Santa Lucia. Continue your tour with the Church of Santa Maria dell’Itria, then head to Palazzo Cosentini and Palazzo Sortino Trono. Now explore the Ragusa Ibla district, the old part of the city. Here you can admire the Cathedral of San Giorgio with its beautiful Portal. Then pass by Piazza Pola and visit the Appiano House Museum. Finally, enjoy a walk in the Ibleo Garden.
Not to be missed are the Donnafugata Castle and the Grotta delle Trabacche.
In the surroundings of Ragusa rise the seaside village of Punta Secca and the enchanting towns of the Val di Noto, such as Modica and Noto.
RAGUSANE SPECIALTIES
Now sit at the table and savor the specialties of Ragusa. Start with an appetizer, such as orange salad, bread and olives, or local cheeses and meats.
Among first courses are different types of homemade pasta, such as cavati, busiati with meat sauce and lolli with broad beans. Have also a taste of ravioli alla Ragusana, baked pasta or pasta with sardines.
Among the main courses are dentice all’acqua pazza (snapper cooked in seasoned water), octopus salad, prawns and seafood. Among meat-based dishes you can try stuffed chicken, fried sausage and pastieri.
Would you like a dessert? All you have to do is decide which one to take. Try the traditional Sicilian cannoli or cassata, or taste the bigné with ricotta, the almond pastries or the buccellati.
