RAGUSANE SPECIALTIES
Good food is never missing in Ragusa. Discover the local flavours by starting with a good appetizer, such as caponata.
You may then find a great variety of first courses, especially the ones based on fish. Choose among pasta with sardines or pasta with breadcrumbs and anchovies, fish ravioli, cavatelli with tuna bottarga, lolli with broad beans (a type of homemade pasta) and soup with scorpionfish and red mullet.
Among the main courses are more seafood specialties such as swordfish, tuna alla ghiotta and cernia alla matalotta (grouper stew in wine). There are also meat specialties such as stimpirata rabbit (flavored rabbit cooked in a pan) or meatballs.
For dessert, take one of the typical almond-based sweets such as martorana fruit or biscuits, or try the more traditional cuccìa (cooked wheat seasoned with sweet ricotta and small pieces of chocolate). And then, do not forget that you are in Sicily, here cassate, cannoli, ice cream and granita are a must!
